The Host of Jeopardy! and beloved Canadian Alex Trebek has died at the age of 80. Hailing from Sudbury, Ontario, Trebek had his start at CBC and became known for hosting Jeopardy! in 1984. His death was originally reported by TMZ and was then confirmed by Jeopardy! via a statement.
“Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” a spokesperson from Jeopardy told TMZ.
According to TMZ, Trebek died surrounded by his family and friends at home. Trebek had announced last year that he been been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since March of 2019.
After news of his death arose, public figures and TV icons immediately began sharing their condolences.
Trebek never resigned from Jeopardy and instead committed to hosting the show until the circumstances changed.
Prior to his death, Trabek had also released a book The Answer Is . . .: Reflections on My Life.
