Our Lady of Lourdes has declared an outbreak following its 4th positive COVID-19 case linked to the school.
”KFL&A Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and is currently working with Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) to respond. This outbreak has been declared due to a case being linked to a previous case in the past 14 days. Information has been sent home to all families. Updates will be provided as they become available,” a statement on the Schools website read.
We first broke that Our Lady of Lourdes had three positive COVID-19 cases on Sunday, when parents were emailed about the situation at around 10am. At the time, it was not considered an outbreak. The school was then closed and it was announced that classes were being moved online effective immediately. In the days following, the school extended its closure to November 23rd.
Testing is only recommended if students or staff develop symptoms or are told to get tested by KFL&A Public Health. Close contacts will receive directions from the health unit.
There are now 5 positive COVID-19 cases within the ALCDSB community, one of which is within Holy Cross Catholic Secondary school and the rest are within Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.
