Workers at Queen’s University came together in front of Richardson Hall to celebrate the successful negotiation of tentative agreements on Monday, narrowly avoiding a strike.
The mood at the rally, which was originally planned to be a protest, was one of hope and relief as the Queen’s community gathered in support of workers who had been at the bargaining table with the university late into Sunday night.
Adam Cordick, a representative at the bargaining table with CUPE 254, spoke with CFRC about the outcome, stating, “I think we made a lot of progress… our voice has been heard and that’s the most gratifying thing.”
The agreements, which involve over a thousand workers, still require ratification from all parties. Cordick stated he is “cautiously optimistic” that employees will accept the agreement at their final votes in the coming days.
