Riding a surge of patriotism in response to tensions with the U.S., Councillor Brandon Tozzo brought a motion to council at their Tuesday meeting to distribute Canadian flags to Kingston residents free of charge.
Councillor Tozzo initiated the motion after receiving requests to remove American flags from local facilities. Instead of pushing for action in this direction, Tozzo took the opportunity to encourage a stronger sense of national pride.
“Let’s not tear down something we hate,” he stated before council. “We have an opportunity in this moment to bring people together. Instead of being anti-American, let’s be pro-Canada.”
Council voted unanimously to pass the motion.
A maximum of $10,000 from the 2025 operating budget will be allocated to the initiative.
