Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is revolutionizing brain tumor care with its Integrative Brain Tumor Program, launched just over a year ago under neurosurgeon, researcher, and entrepreneur Dr. Teresa Purzner.
The program combines academic analysis with entrepreneurial design thinking to tackle problems identified by patients, and has resulted in dramatic improvements since its implementation last year.
The number of patients receiving surgery within provincial targets has increased by over 40%, and surgical volume has more than doubled.
KHSC has received $150,000 per year for the next three years to continue the program, and the program is now preparing to expand to other disease treatment, and to several other institutions, both in different countries and within the province.
