Partners in Mission Food Bank will hold its annual Food Blitz on Saturday, April 12, collecting donations at 10 grocery store locations across Kingston in preparation for the summer months.
The organization has set a goal to collect 25,000 lbs of food to stock shelves ahead of the summer, a period when donations typically slow while demand remains high. However, the food bank is expecting a particularly challenging year as food costs have continued to increase.
Last year saw a record 1 in 17 residents in Kingston and Loyalist Township seeking assistance from the food bank. According to Executive Director of Partners in Mission Dan Irwin, while growth in demand has slightly slowed in 2025, need is still up 1.9% from last year.
Irwin stated in an interview with CFRC, “…we are getting to the point where it’s like, okay, are we going to have enough people around to help those who need help? That’s a concern of mine…”
