Crow and Cardinal share the perch as Kingston’s official City Birds

After a tight race that saw over 1,650 votes cast, Kingston has officially named two City Birds: the Crow and the Cardinal.

The tie came after a lively public poll held as part of Kingston’s bid to become a Nature Canada certified Bird Friendly City in 2025.

Originally featuring 15 local species chosen by the City’s team, the shortlist was expanded after residents rallied to include the Crow.

“Lots of twists and turns along the way, we were watching it pretty closely,“ said Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works and Solid Waste for the City. “Excellent turnout for this competition, so it was fun to see.”

The race ended in a perfect draw with 339 votes apiece for the Crow and the Cardinal, both year-round residents of Kingston.
