A new strategic report released by Kingston Economic Development is positioning Kingston as a key player in the future of Ontario’s film and television industry.
CEO of local production company Branded to Film Jason Joly authored the Hyperlocal Ontario Action Plan (HOAP) and published in partnership with Kingston Economic Development, Kingston Film & Media, Frontenac Business Services, and Ontario Creates.
The report lays out how a “Big Little City” like Kingston can grow a sustainable film industry by investing in crew training, infrastructure, and sustainable production practices.
“What originally prompted me, it was a theoretical exercise,” Joly stated in an interview with CFRC. “… how can you pioneer and build a film industry from scratch?”
As for next steps, the company is close to achieving funding needed for a production studio in Kingston’s east end, and is looking to continue to build on work done so far.
