Brian Evoy, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board trustee for Kingston and the Islands, is seeking reelection.
Evoy has been the ALCDSB trustee for Kingston and the Islands since 2018 and currently serves as chair of the board.
During Evoy’s time as chair, the board developed a new multi-year strategic plan that outlines the ALCDSB’s priorities.
“The multi-year strategic plan outlines the vision and the mission and the priorities of the board… Those four priorities are faith, and then the second one is equity and well-being, and formation and achievement, and stewardship of resources,” said Evoy in an interview with YGK News.
Evoy said he believes his relationships with the board, students and families are strong and that he has earned the community’s trust.
“I believe my experience, commitment, and knowledge can continue to serve our students, families, schools, and communities,” said Evoy.
“I worked very hard in strengthening the partnerships with families and parishes across the board, not just here in Kingston, but right across the whole Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board,” said Evoy.
Evoy has advocated for maintaining Catholic education across the province during his time as trustee.
“I really strive to ensure that Catholic education is maintained in the province, and we are continuing to build upon the great foundation that Catholic education has formulated here in Ontario,” said Evoy.
“I’ve been a great, strong advocate for Catholic education, both here in Algonquin Lakeshore and provincially, and I feel that my voice is strong enough to help parents in their students’ education,” said Evoy.
Evoy also shared that the ALCDSB welcomes all students and said that the board has been recognized for its inclusivity.
“Our board is very open-minded…I know parents who are very proud of the Algonquin Lakeshore’s history in reference to inclusion,” said Evoy.
Evoy is one of five candidates running for the ALCDSB Kingston and the Islands trustee position. Rob Gilmour, Patrick Greenwood, Glen Edward Perry and Michael Sammon are seeking the position ahead of the October 26 election.
