All Women Entrepreneurship Circuit partners with OneRoof Kingston to deliver multicultural workshops

All Women Entrepreneurship Circuit (AWEC) has entered into an advocacy partnership with OneRoof Kingston Youth Services Hub and is organizing multicultural workshops in Kingston. Through sales from its online market platform Global Galleria, proceeds from the workshops will go to OneRoof Kingston Youth Services Hub to support the organization’s initiatives, particularly the Young Women’s Empowerment Group.

This series of workshops start from the last week of October. They will run through the end of November and range from art, craft, culinary, music workshops, etc., facilitated by Global Galleria’s pool of diverse in-house and partner coaches. These workshops are open for hobbyists, enthusiasts, creatives, and learners of all ages.

The workshops include; Acrylic Native Art Painting with coach Dakota Oliver on October 30, Indigenous Culinary Workshop with Lisa Cadue, and Multicultural Holiday Cooking with Juliana Antunes. The fee to participate in the workshops is between $20-$45, and the price includes all materials needed to participate, such as art supplies and cooking ingredients. All workshops will take place at OneRoof – Youth Hub located at 620 Princess St. in Kingston.

Levicel Eleazar Caland is the co-founder of Global Galleria and Community and Stakeholder Engagement Director at AWEC. She explains how the organization collaborates with multi-sectoral organizations in Canada to help break systemic barriers to income security and entrepreneurship experienced by diverse women experiencing intersectional barriers.

“Through these culturally enriching workshops, we hope to further cultivate cultural awareness and celebrate diversity and inclusivity among Kingston residents and visitors,” Calang said.

“Amplifying the city’s rich history and evident diverse culture.”

Global Galleria is AWEC’s pilot project, an e-commerce collective founded through Queen’s Innovation Centre Summer Initiative of 2021. It is a registered online marketplace that showcases products and services from diverse women micro-entrepreneurs, including immigrant women, indigenous women, women with disabilities, rural women vendors, and international students in Kingston and the surrounding region.

Global Galleria women vendors will also donate their time and conduct free art/craft / cooking-related workshops to OneRoof Kingston’s youth clients.

Global Galleria will also hold a “Holiday Bazaar & Halloween Bash” this October 30 (10 am – 4 pm) at the OneRoof Kingston grounds (outdoor venue). Global Galleria vendors will showcase and sell their multicultural products, and there will be a trick-or-treat booth for kids. We will send you the event flyer this weekend.

All events are in person and will be limited to 10-15 people per workshop to adhere to the health and safety protocol. All participants are also required to have their proof of COVID-19 vaccination and to do a COVID-19 self-assessment before coming to the venue.
