Kingston Secondary School (KSS) and Module Vanier were placed on a short lockdown on Wednesday afternoon.
In a statement sent out to parents at KSS and Module Vanier, the Limestone District School Board (LDSB) said they received information around 1 PM of a potential risk inside the building to students and staff, leading to a police presence and a half hour full lockdown in the building.
“At approximately 1:00 p.m., we received information that there was a potential inside risk to students and staff,” the statement read.
“School staff responded by enacting the Limestone District School Board’s emergency protocol by putting the schools into lockdown and contacting emergency services. At 1:30 p.m., once police determined that there was no threat, the lockdown at KSS/Module Vanier and Hold & Secure at Molly Brant were lifted.”
At the direction of Kingston Police, Molly Brant Elementary School was also placed under a hold and secure order, which is put into place when there is a potential threat nearby a school but not within it, with normal school operations continuing.
LDSB assured that all students and staff were safe in a tweet, though neither they or the Kingston Police have shared the nature of the threat at this time.
After the brief lockdown ended at 1:30 PM, students and staff at KSS and Module Vanier resumed their regular afternoon schedules.
A spokesperson for LDSB said there is an ongoing investigation by the Kingston Police and that they have no further information at this time, while Kingston Police have shared only that there is an ongoing investigation and there is no threat to public, student, or staff safety at this time.
