Kingston’s ReelOut Queer Film Festival will be returning for a ten day run starting on Jan. 30 with new programming, including the addition of video games to the media lineup and a shorts program in partnership with the Kingston Frontenac Public Library.
New this year, the festival will be going beyond film to include video games by Canadian artists focused on the topics of gender and sexual orientation. Games will be free to play at The Screening Room throughout the festival.
Executive Director Matt Salton explained in an interview with CFRC, “We’re classified as a media arts festival. And that can mean pretty much anything that’s created through technological means, including video games. And so I thought, well, we only really focused on film. Why don’t we try and do something different?”
In their 26th year, ReelOut has 18 programs from over 45 filmmakers, media artists, game designers, and performing artists from 14 different countries.
