The Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT) has announced that over 13,000 residents across the region were connected to primary care providers in 2024.
The FLA OHT is a network of health-care providers, community and social service organizations, and community members. They have been working to connect community members to primary care close to where they live in a Health Home; a home base for access to all necessary health care and wellness services.
This total greatly surpassed their original targets, with a release in Spring 2024 announcing a goal of attaching up to 9,000 residents to primary care.
Prior to this effort, an estimated 30,000 residents — approximately 10 per cent of the region’s population — were without a primary care provider.
Dr. Kim Morrisson, FLA OHT Executive Lead, stated in an interview with CFRC, “It’s super exciting that we’ve been able to exceed what we aimed for. But, it also tells me that we’re perfectly capable of finishing the job… There’s a whole lot more work to do and we’re well set up to do that, to really truly get everybody attached to a Health Home.”
