On World Rivers Day, September 28th, Kingston will be one of six Ontario communities taking part in the first-ever Great Lakes Coastal Cleanup.
The event is hosted by The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, and funded by an $85,000 grant from Ontario’s Great Lakes Local Action Fund.
The six communities participating in this first multi-site cleanup are Thunder Bay, Chatham-Kent, Owen Sound, Collingwood, Cobourg, and Kingston.
“Everyone in our community understands the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship, doing what we can as a community. But this is one of those tangible things that I think you can really see the impact of right away,” stated Mayor Bryan Paterson in an interview with CFRC. “I’ve already been incredibly impressed by the response that we’ve gotten from the community on this.”
