The Great Lakes Museum in Kingston has been named Ontario’s Choice for Top Small Museum, Art Gallery, or Historic Site for 2025, capping off a milestone year of growth and celebration.
The award, determined by public vote through Attractions Ontario, comes on the heels of the museum’s 50th anniversary and the historic S.S. Keewatin being recognized as Museum Ship of the Year.
Attendance has surged dramatically, from 8,000 visitors in 2023 to more than 27,000 last year. This year, the museum has already welcomed over 26,000 guests.
Director Bep Schippers credits tireless staff and volunteers for the recognition
The museum is already planning its next chapter, with the Keewatin open until November and winter programs like the Nautical Nights lecture series on the horizon.
