St. Lawrence College plans more surveys on Fleming integration, future college name

St. Lawrence College is inviting its community to identify the college’s strengths through an online survey ahead of its planned integration with Fleming College.

The first survey, announced September 29th, has three questions: which college you are connected to, your relationship to the school, and each college’s greatest strength.

Glenn Vollebregt, SLC president and CEO, said the survey feedback will carry SLC’s values into the integrated college.

“Subsequent phases of the engagement process will include community input towards the integrated college’s name, for instance,” said Vollebregt.

Vollebregt shared that the first day saw many responses via social media and email. Further details about the engagement opportunity, including feedback summaries, will be published, and college officials have already taken responses into account.

“We have been pleased with the initial response and are grateful our community is taking the time to contribute their input towards the work of integrating,” said Vollebregt.

In the initial press release announcing the integration, Julie Chaffin, St. Lawrence Board of Governors, explained why the colleges are coming together. She said that it will strengthen their commitment to student success and the community.

“This is an important step toward creating a stronger future for students, employers and communities across eastern Ontario,” said Chaffin.

“By bringing together the complementary strengths of our two institutions, we have an opportunity to build a more resilient college that can respond to changing needs.”

Both colleges are expected to be fully merged by April 2027.
