This afternoon, Jane Philpott, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University, confirmed a COVID-19 case within her faculty. Philpott shared the news in an email to her students at 12:38pm.
“We have been advised by Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health of a positive case in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The individual has followed appropriate protocols and is self-isolating” The email said.
The email further states that the faculty is working closely with KFL&A Public Health to trace all contacts.
“If you have not been contacted then you may continue your activities as usual, always following standard health measures including hand washing, physical distancing, avoiding crowds and masking where appropriate.” The statement also said.
YGK News reached out to the Faculty for comment. While the faculty acknowledged the positive covid-19 case, they could not confirm the timing of the case.
Queen’s University also released a public statement confirming the positive case.
“As reminder, any member of the Queen’s community that reports feeling ill should self-isolate and do a self-assessment. Students who screen as requiring a test should call Student Wellness Services at (613) 533-2506 to make an appointment to visit the Campus COVID-19 Assessment Centre.” The statement from Queen’s reiterated.
This comes as two new covid-19 cases have been confirmed today by Public Heath. The new cases are both females, one in her 20s and the other under 20. The second case is not secondary or elementary school age.
Correction: We initially stated that a source informed us that a undergraduate nursing student tested positive for Covid-19. However, we have yet to hear back from the FHS/KPH for confirmation thus we have decided to retract this statement. YGK News regrets this error.
