Queen’s University has announced that due to the decline in COVID-19 cases causing hospitalization, it will be suspending mandatory masking and vaccination requirements on campus.
Queen’s now says that beginning May 1st, students, staff and faculty can participate in all components of their course without needing to be vaccinated.
“The university’s vaccination requirement will be suspended, at which point most students, faculty, and staff will no longer be required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated to participate in in-person university activities. Most students looking to register for classes in the summer term with in-person components will now be able to do so, regardless of their vaccination status,” wrote Queen’s in a statement this afternoon.
The mandatory masking policy will also be suspended and students and staff will no longer need to complete Qsecure forms.
“As we look ahead with cautious optimism, we must also emphasize that this pandemic is not yet over and preventing the spread of COVID-19 remains a priority,” added the university on Monday.
The university warns that they may reinstate these policies if the situation changes and that it would rely on the current public health situation.
