Kingston – The Canoe Theatrical Productions is gearing up for its first in-person Juvenis Festival in two years. The Juvenis Festival is an annual multidisciplinary youth arts festival that takes place over National Youth Week. This year, Juvenis will run from April 27th to May 7th, with 8 events, over 20 workshops, and nearly 100 youth participants. All performances and exhibitions are produced entirely by youth ages 30 and under.
Events and workshops will be taking place throughout the city with some online options available for those who wish to get involved from home. The festival includes activities from a wide range of artistic disciplines including dance, writing, visual art, music, and film. Workshops are open to all skill and interest levels. For young people wanting to learn more about having a career in the arts, the Arts Career Series offers a seminar every day of the festival and covers topics including finances for artists, arts entrepreneurship, navigating careers in the arts, and more.
National Youth Week (May 1st to 7th) recognizes the invaluable contribution of youth, and Blue Canoe’s Juvenis Festival aims to empower young people and celebrate the artistic talent they bring to our community in Kingston. Tobias Partridge, director of Juvenis’s A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, says: “the opportunities Juvenis provides to young people are so important, especially right now. The Juvenis community allows its members to forge meaningful connections and develop skills they would never have the chance to otherwise.”
