Kingston’s first ‘Home Movie Day’ explores the theme of “transience”

Transience — the temporary nature of things and the passage of time — is the theme of Kingston’s first ‘Home Movie Day’, a joint project of Kingston Film Heritage Project and Vulnerable Media Lab.

Home Movie Day has been celebrated at venues worldwide since 2003, bringing communities together to watch their own home movies and amateur films on the big screen. Saturday, Oct. 19, will be the inaugural event for Kingston.

“Transience can really be used to describe home movies and vulnerable media in general, of course. The temporary nature of things, of material, but also the passage of time,” explains Adam Cook, an organizer for the event. “Home movies are typically linked with nostalgia, so it seems fitting to go with the theme of transience.”

Film submissions are being accepted until the end of September. More information is available at screeningroomkingston.com.
