It’s music to the ears of Hip fans everywhere—The Tragically Hip’s legendary catalogue is getting the theatrical treatment.

Gananoque’s Thousand Islands Playhouse has announced it is teaming up with Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius to help bring a brand-new musical to life, celebrating the music and enduring cultural legacy of Kingston’s most iconic band.

This ambitious national project is being developed with the full support of The Tragically Hip and their management, alongside producers Michael Rubinoff and David and Hannah Mirvish.

The Playhouse expressed its enthusiasm for playing a role in such a significant endeavor, calling it an incredible opportunity to showcase one of Canada’s most beloved bands in a fresh and theatrical format.

“We are so excited to share this big news,” Thousand Islands Playhouse officials shared. “We couldn’t ask for better source material, it all feels like a feverish dream.”

Playhouse officials said details on the storyline and production timeline were still emerging, and more would be revealed later.
