The 2025 Kingston Canadian Film Festival (KCFF) kicks off today, marking its 25th anniversary run.

Founded by Alex Jansen in 2000, the festival began as a small volunteer-run event. Over the years, KCFF has blossomed into the largest festival in the world dedicated exclusively to Canadian film.

This year the festival is featuring more Kingston films than ever before, a significant milestone in its ongoing journey.

Jansen reflected, “It’s just been amazing to see kind of the community out of it and to see some of the volunteers who still 25 years later are still coming and volunteering, and just to see the community and appetite and support for it. It’s incredibly rewarding.”

Listen to the full story to hear from founding director Alex Jansen, former director Alison Migneault, and current director Marc Garniss, who reflect on the festival’s evolution from a small volunteer-run event to a cornerstone of the Kingston film community.
