Council unanimously approves motion to develop criteria for future Memorial Centre plans

At Tuesday night’s council meeting, councillors unanimously approved a motion to develop criteria for the future proposals for the Memorial Centre.

The centre has long served as a vital community space in the Williamsville District, hosting events like the local farmers market and the annual fall fair.

The motion was prompted by community concerns over the recent controversial soccer stadium proposal, which sparked significant local debate.

Williamsville District councillor Vincent Cinanni noted his constituents’ anxiety about the centre’s future, with hopes that the motion will “…bring assurance to the community about the future rehabilitation of the site.”

City staff will report back by the third quarter of 2025 with a comprehensive list of criteria for the future of the space, shaped by community feedback and previous council decisions.
