The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local 901, representing over 2,000 graduate student workers at Queen’s University, could be going on strike as of March 10, 2025 if demands are not met by the university.
This deadline comes after the highest turnout and strongest strike mandate in the union’s history. Top priorities identified by the union include fair wages, access to affordable housing, and paid time to learn course content.
The latest update on the university’s labour news page provides a brief timeline of the bargaining process so far, and states, “The university remains committed to continuing to work with the union in the interest of reaching an agreement but has prepared contingency plans to mitigate the impact of any strike or lockout.”
“I don’t know how the university thinks it can function with our membership out… It’s ludicrous”, PSAC Local 901 President Jake Morrow stated in an interview with CFRC.
